The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble

Very few bands can be credited for creating an entire genre of music but this statement wouldn't be far off the mark for the cult band the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble. They, along with a handful of others like; Bohren und der Club of Gore & The Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones pushed the dark jazz sound further than any other.

Whilst their albums were extremely difficult to find - having a very small single run on the amazing Ad Noiseam, the fine folks at Denovali have finally convinced the ensemble (which sadly parted ways several years back) to re-issue their works.

'Here be Dragons' is definitely considered their magnum opus but each of their works is an incredibly profound musical statement which, to this day, a decade on from release, are still making passionate fans aware of what can be achieved when dark jazz is created.

2020 is a fantastic year for fans of this band as the long hard work that the fine folks at Denovali have been doing to secure re-issue rights to their back catalog finally sees fruition. From the Stairwell, their incredible final album sees a limited re-issue in two amazing variants. Their live album, previously only available digitally was also pressed on both a limited white vinyl run and a standard black version with incredible artwork. Later in winter we will see the long-awaited, and most requested re-issue of all: Here be Dragons.
